Instructions

To type directly with the computer keyboard:

  • Type the number after the vowel or consonant to add a diacritic.
    macron (◌̄) = 1 (Note: Macrons are not used in Hakka)
    acute accent (◌́)= 2
    breve (◌̆) = 3 (Note: Breves are not used in Hakka)
    grave accent (◌̀) = 4
    circumflex (◌̂) = 5
    double macron (◌̿) = 6 (Note: Double macrons are not used in Hakka)
    diaresis (below the vowel) (◌̤) = 7
    vertical line (◌̍) = 8
    diaresis (above the vowel) (◌̈) = 9 (Note: Diaresis above the vowel are not used in Hakka)
    tilde (◌̃) = ~ (Note: tildes are not used in Hakka)
    diaresis (below the vowel) plus diacritic (above the vowel) (◌̤̄)(◌̤́ )(◌̤̌)(◌̤̀ )(◌̤̂)(◌̤̿)(◌̤̍) = type vowel letter twice + diacritic number (Note: diaresis below the vowels PLUS diacritics above are only used in Hakka for the letter "u")

Copy [Ctrl]+[C] & Paste [Ctrl]+[V]
It should be noted that the diacritic tonal numbers used on this keyboard differs from the Pha̍k-fa-sṳ Tonal Numbers shown on Wikipedia. This is purposely done to ensure compatibility with all the other Sinitic keyboards on this website so that the tonal numbers remain unchanged and to avoid needless confusion.
