Instructions

To type directly with the computer keyboard:

  • Type the number after the vowel or consonant to add a diacritic.
    macron (◌̄) = 1
    acute accent (◌́)= 2
    breve (◌̆) = 3
    grave accent (◌̀) = 4
    circumflex (◌̂) = 5
    double macron (◌̿) = 6 (Note: Double macrons are not used in Eastern Min)
    diaresis (below the vowel) (◌̤) = 7
    vertical line (◌̍) = 8 (Note: Vertical lines are not used in Eastern Min)
    diaresis (above the vowel) (◌̈) = 9 (Note: diaresis above the vowels are not used in Eastern Min)
    tilde (◌̃) = ~ (Note: tildes are not used in Eastern Min)
    diaresis (below the vowel) plus diacritic (above the vowel) (◌̤̄)(◌̤́ )(◌̤̌)(◌̤̀ )(◌̤̂)(◌̤̿)(◌̤̍) = type vowel letter twice + diacritic number
